Podcasts:
I have been listening to the HotSpot podcast for a couple of months now on and off. It is a podcast available on gamespot.com. The podcast is made by workers from gamespot. The podcast comes out once a week to discuss the updates in the gaming community. They have no affiliation to particular gaming companies so they discuss all of the major upcoming games and also games that people might not know about. There are ont many reviews on the podcast but mostly comments, yet these comments don say weather HotSpot is a good podcast or not. The comments are arguments about the topics on the podcast's.
I only listen to one podcast so the second one I had to look for at i tunes. since i like the office I decided to look for a podcast by one of the office characters Dwight Shrewt. I know he has a blog in which he is very funny so i decided to look for a podcast. Instead all I found was a podcast by Matt Sommer about the show itself. This is completely opposite to the HotSpot one as in it does not captivate my interest at all, which surprised me because people gave it a 4 and a half star rating.
I did enjoy looking for podcasts but in the end it was not worth it, podcasts are great for when you are doing frivolous activities such as driving or washing dishes, but since i have no need for any such activities they become a waste of time. I listen to one already and that is about an hour and a half every week. Thus i do not believe i shall continue to search for new podcasts, if someday i stumble upon a good one or find myself with more free time then I shall subscribe to it.
Podcast's are a better way of relaying information then newspapers and magazines because people can walk around listening to them. That way there is no problem of being distracted or holding something in your hands. It is even easier then blogging because most people can relay information.
Audio books are a great way for people to "read" books. The truth is an audio book cannot replace the truth and feeling that a book provides but another truth is that the youth of today is "plugged". They are born with i-phones and blackberry's that they don't know the true value of a book. Kids will not grow up reading books anymore, just hearing them, it doesn't matter which is better the truth is most of the youth will not read books anymore.
Video Podcasts:
The first audio podcast I watched was entitled "Things they don't want you to know". It is about superstitions that happened in the past. Such as the new England vampire panic where they think a vampire converted a bunch of villagers into blood thirsty monsters. It was not very interesting at all and did not captivate my interest at all.
The second vidcast was Machinima, it is also a gamer one (I decided to make the vidcast and podcast similar to facilitate comparing them). This vidcast is for gamers to see the newest trailers for games, that way they can see beforehand what to expect in the game. This vidcast also helps people see weather they should buy the game or not, they can make their own decision about the game based on what they thought about the trailer.
Just as with the podcasts although I did enjoy it but i do not believe I will make a habit of watching them. I will however continue to watch Machinima since it is a good way to stay up to date on the new games coming soon. But vidcasts require time which I do not really have, i would much rather watch a movie or hang out with my friends during my free time then watch vidcasts.
I believe vidcasts are the best way so far to get information across to the public, unlike podcasts in vidcasts people can also see the news. Most people have at least access to a computer but soon everyone will, once that happens the world will be completely digital. Once the world is fully digital there will be no need for TV's or magazines even, everything will be accessible from your computer.
Youtube has had a boom in success ever since it came out. The reasons are vast and simple, anyone can post anything they like in youtube. Since that is the case people have begun making home videos, everyone wants a chance to be famous no matter what its for. People also use it for news, there are a bunch of people who made news vidcasts and posted them on youtube, this way you can find out anything you want just from youtube. The main reason youtube flourished though is plain and simple, boredom. Whenever people are bored they go on youtube and just watch random videos to laugh and kill time.
One of the examples of a video to watch when bored is this one:
